Welcome to the Study Abroad Programs in Sicily, Italy webpage of the Center for Italian Studies – Babilonia!

These programs have been especially developed for U.S. University students who want attend a study abroad program in Italy, and particularly in Sicily, and have their independent studies in Italy granted academic credits.

Taormina is an ideal location to study abroad for short termsemesterinternship and faculty led programs for students interested in total immersion into the Italian culture and language.

Each U.S. University has its unique procedures for approval of independent course work completed by its students on programs abroad so it is vital that students follow their university guidelines.

Since each university also has its own system of determining the number of credits earned for courses taken, students registering to earn academic credits at their universities for their study abroad Italian language and culture courses taken at our Center for Italian Studies are advised to follow the following procedures:

  • Determine courses in which you would like to enroll and identify courses for which you will be earning academic credits when registering for your study abroad Italian language and culture classes at the Center for Italian Studies.   • Contact your academic advisor for course approval.
  • Our Academic Advisor will be happy to supply your Professor or your Study Abroad Office with syllabi for our courses. Send the name, email address and mailing address of your Academic Advisor to Babilonia’s Study Abroad Academic Advisor
  • Complete a Transcript Request Form upon arrival at the Center for Italian Studies “Babilonia”

Final grades follow the U.S. system of letter grades and are based on a 4-point scale. Course grades are based on a combination of attendance and participation, written assignments and a final exam.

Upon completion of your Italian language course, an Official Transcript will be sent to the Registrar’s Office or Study Abroad Office whichever is identified on the Transcript Request Form.

The Center for Italian Studies – Babilonia welcomes faculty led study abroad programs and assists faculty in customizing programswhich take full advantage of the rich historical and artistic treasures Sicily offers, while maintaining rigorous academic standards and promoting institutional goals. With a study abroad academic advisor based in the U.S., logistical details can be addressed easily thus streamlining the faculty led study abroad program development process. Our Center for Italian Studies is a hosting institution for several Italian Departments and Study Abroad Programs, for whom we have developed faculty led customized programs.
