PIPPO FAVA’S “LEZIONE DI MAFIA”
The Study Abroad Department at BABILONIA – Center for Italian Language and Culture is extremely honored and proud to present “LEZIONE DI MAFIA”, the last lecture given by the Sicilian journalist, Pippo Fava , killed by mafia on January, 5th, 1984, during the AATI Conference in Palermo on June 28th at 5pm at the University of Palermo (Polo didattico dell’Università).
The reading of “Lezione di mafia” will be presented by Alessandro Adorno, director and founder of BABILONIA – Center for Italian Language and Culture. The reading will be musically accompanied by the Orchestra Musica Insieme di Librino.
THE ORCHESTRA MUSICA INSIEME LIBRINO
The Orchestra Musica Insieme di Librino is a social program of the Rotary Club of Catania, established in 2009 thanks to the initiative of Loredana Caltabiano, and inspired by the example of the Maestro A. Abreu in Venezuela. The project’s aim is to introduce young children and teenagers from the risky neighborhood of Librino in Catania to music through singing or playing an instrument. The value and positive impact of this project on the “sensitive” neighborhood of Librino is crystal clear. Mafia easily roots in Librino, with its high percentage of school dropouts and daily problems such as juvenile crime, unemployment, incarcerated parents.
To illustrate the high level of musical performance, the Orchestra Musica Insieme di Librino performed during the last visit of the President of the Italian Parliament, Laura Boldrini in Catania on May 20th, 2017.
The Orchestra also performed during the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the killing of Giudice Falcone, broadcasted by RAI 1 from the Aula Bunker of Carcere Ucciardone on May 27th.
BABILONIA – Center for Italian Language and Culture is extremely proud to provide the ragazzi of the Orchestra Musica Insieme di Librino the opportunity to perform at the AATI Conference in Palermo during the reading of the last lecture of Pippo Fava to the students of the Liceo of Palazzolo Acreide, an audience of students who were the same age as the orchestra members today. And we are proud to to offer to all teachers and professors participating to the 2017 AATI Conference in Palermo the opportunity to hear Pippo Fava’s last lecture to students, a lesson that we, Sicilians, will never forget!
The Study Abroad Department at BABILONIA – Center for Italian Language and Culture is proud to list the course “Mafia: a regional, national or global issue” to U.S. faculty and U.S. University students.
